The 'D' rock hard!

I can't believe I got the chance to see Tenacious D play live - all thanks to my good friend Jon! It was such a cool show. They rocked the house down! It started with just Kyle and Jack on the stage with a 'Kyles house' backdrop, then Lee turned up, spilled beer in the electricity socket and so when Jack went to plug in the electric guitar, they got electrocuted and sent to hell! The first bit was cool - but not as good as when they entered hell and formed a rock band with the Anti-Christ, Charlie Chaplin and Colonel Saunders! (All sounds a bit surreal - but it was very funny!)

The majority of the second half was songs from their latest album The Pick of Destiny, and some of the songs rock hard! Notably Car Chase Cityand Beezleboss (The Final Showdown) where Dave Grohl plays the devil. Unfortunately the rock God couldn't be there that night, for reasons unexplained, but Lee kicked ass as the Devil anyway! All in all had a very enjoyable, rocked out evening!

Happy Feet and The Holiday

So I finally got around to seeing Happy Feet and was mightily disappointed! Where was the story line? What happened to the 'heart song'? Don't get me wrong, I loved the soundtrack and the baby penguins were adorable, and also integrating real humans instead of rubbish looking CGI ones (unless they have come on leaps and bounds in that area!) but the story just went down a road which made it never come back for me. It must be doing something right though for it to be number 1 in the states over Bond and now number 1 here too! I just hope Prince wins best song in the Golden Globes and Oscars next year! Give him more publicity for Las Vegas and possibly a new album???
I also saw The Holiday on the same day with my girl friends and thought it was brilliant - better than I thought, although Jack Black wasn't quite as funny as I was hoping and expecting! I think Nancy Meyers is a genius (just saw a list of the films she's directed and it includes classics like Private Benjamin and Baby Boom - both portraying strong, intelligent, working women in male dominated industries - just like her in fact!) and apparently both the Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz characters are modelled on herself! She must be very unlucky in love - but still have hope in it! I won't spoil it for those of you who want to see it - but I must recommend that you do, especially while it's on at this time of year! Very festive.

My voiceover career begins!

PLEASE HIRE ME! He he he! Here is my voiceover demo website so maybe if you need a young, fresh, and vibrant sounding voiceover, you know who to call...GHOSTBUSTERS! (Man, I wonder if people in future generations will have to say that after 'who you gonna call!')

So happy the right people won!

So this week sees many reality shows coming to an end, and I'm pleased to say two of my favourites saw the person I wanted to win actually won! Wasn't sure about Sian in Unanimous - Kelly was pretty desperate and conniving! But the right person won, no matter who needed the money!
Plus, Leona won X-Factor! The first girl to win, and boy did she deserve it! If you saw the final and heard Ray sing the song first, you could tell he didn't deserve to even be in the final! The guy was a cocky, pretentious little kid singing grown up songs that were written back before his parents were even born! Leona on the other hand had some real talent behind her and I'm glad Garry Barlow announced on the show that Simon has real responsibility managing her and making sure her career doesn't go down the toilet like Steve whats-his-face! I really hope she produces a good enough album for me to buy - and for me to do that it has to be pretty darn good.

Edit: Since writing this thread, Grace won Cirque de Celebrite and I'm now hoping Mark and Karen will beat Matt Dawson in Strictly Come Dancing! Yes, I know I'm obessed with these reality TV shows, but they're all coming to an end now, and that's the most exciting time! Just looking forward to the beginning of January being consumed by Celebrity Big Brother!

Things to be thankful for

At the end of the year, I tend to sit back and think about the year I have experienced and the year ahead. I generally think about all the crappy stuff that's happened on a day-to-day basis, but this time of year makes you appreciate the good stuff. So here's my blog about the good things from this year and my hopes for the next!

Firstly, everyone still has their health! I worry about some people in my family, especially my grandparents, but they're still going pretty strong. My mum recently had a health scare, but I think she'll be okay. She just has to take things a bit slower. My nose has been through some tough times, but after seeing two specialists I think the future is looking snot free!

I'm happy to still be with my loving boyfriend and we celebrated 5 years together this year. Can't believe he puts up with me, but that's love for you!

I changed jobs, maybe not for the better, but I met new people and learned new skills which will help me for the future. Possibly will start my new voice over career soon too!

Prince has released an album, been nominated for a few awards if not won some already and is getting back into the mainstream-ish!

Plans for next year include finding a new job (have had some interviews already), going to Vegas to see Prince (also planning on seeing him on his world tour which is well over due!), seeing my family more and possibly buying our first home depending on our financial situation! Roll on 2007!

Christmas is upon us

So Christmas is here once more and I have the arduous task of buying presents for everyone! I have bought most of it from Amazon but there are still bits and bobs I need to get. Money is also tight this year so that doesn't help! We put the tree up last weekend which is pretty early for me, but I wanted to get into the spirit of Christmas as soon as possible to spur me on with the shopping. I hate going to shopping centres at weekends and Christmas creates that atmosphere every day of the week unfortunately, so online shopping is really the way to go for me! I also love the fact that Christmas brings family and friends together - even if it is just once a year we end up seeing them. I am personally really looking forward to seeing my grandparents and my sister who is coming all the way from the states.

Unanimous

I have been watching a Channel 4 show called Unanimous for a few weeks now, and they still haven't come to a unanimous decision! If you don't have a clue about what I'm writing about, here's what Channel 4 have to say about it:

Nine diverse contestants who have never met before are isolated in an underground bunker for Channel 4’s brand-new Unanimous, a gameshow where strategy, cunning and deviousness are everything. Cut off from the outside world, the group will have no idea whether it is day or night. They must decide unanimously which one of them deserves a cash prize of one million pounds. And to make matters worse the clock is ticking… if the contestants can’t reach a Unanimous decision, the prize money starts to count down...

Basically it's hotting up now and I'm really looking forward to the outcome and if they actually do come up with a winner, or if they're so selfish that they'd let the money go down to nothing than reward someone with it - not that any of them really deserve it anyway!

Recent trailers

I love playing, what my boyfriend has dubbed, 'the trailer game' when I go to the cinema. It's where you guess what the trailers are advertising the fastest before the feature (it makes time go a bit quicker!). I have won the last couple of times between my boyfriend and I (one of my proudest moments of the game has to be getting Casino Royale from just the MGM logo when he's the Bond fan!).

Anywho, I was just trying to swat up on the latest trailers I was interested in, and thought I'd post them on my blog for all to see!

First, Evan Almighty:

Looks interesting! Not really sure yet to be honest. Steve Carell is great, but to drag up the concept again seems a bit lame when Jim Carey did a good job originally!

The next one is Rocky:

Now, I didn't want to believe that they were actually going to bring him back in his sixties either, but they've done it and it doesn't look half bad! I think they may have brought this franchise enough into the 21st centuary to survive. Example, from the look of the boxing scene at the end, I think I'll be seeing this in the cinema! However, they couldn't get away from the cheesy montage scenes of the eighties ('we're gonna need a montage...montage') but I guess that's one of the charms of Rocky that they can't get rid of!
